Startup funding picks up pace, 411 deals in H1

Date posted: Tuesday 3 July 2018

The tide is turning for the startup ecosystem as venture capital investments into early and midstage deals pick up pace, with the lacuna among series-A, B and C deals finally seeing some respite. The first half of 2018 has given a thrust to the capital flow in the ecosystem with investments worth $3.6 billion made across 411 deals in startups. While the number may seem optimistic for the year ahead, it pales in comparison to the $5.6 billion worth of investments across 571 deals that flowed into startups during the first half of 2017 down by almost 36%.Investors believe a large part of the lag in investments in the ecosystem in 2018 has also been due to the lack of quality companies, as startup formation still remains work in progress.
