Not only is this reflected in the rise of the Indian gaming startups, but it’s also highlighted by the wild popularity of international titles such as Fortnite or PUBG(30 Mn+ active users globally) in India. These games have become household names in many parts of India, and have entered the mainstream discussion as well. Fantasy sports games and card games such as Rummy and Teen Patti have taken the Indian startup ecosystem by storm. Currently, India is home to more than 278 Mn online gaming users which make up approximately 46% of the total 604 Mn internet subscribers in India. This number is expected to reach 312 Mn by the year 2020. A major driving force behind the rise of mobile gaming in India is due to the 54% surge in internet users from 391 Mn in 2016 to 604 Mn in 2018. Between 2014 and Q1 2019, the total venture capital funding in Indian gaming startups was $337 Mn. The investment in Indian gaming startup is growing at a CAGR of 22%, among the gaming startups the top funded startups are Dream11 with $100 Mn in total funding, followed by Smaaash Entertainment with $82.6 Mn in funding and Nazara Technologies with $79 Mn.
