Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup Ather Energy has raised Rs 84 crore in fresh funding from its largest backer – Hero MotoCorp – as it stays on track with expansion into 20 cities by the end of next year and set up a new manufacturing plant in Hosur, in Tamil Nadu. The investment will be an extension of Ather’s Series C round in which it raised $51 million in May last year, most of which — $32 million — was pumped in by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal, one of the earliest angel investors in the firm.
